Bottom line: Our crew replaced a packaged rooftop unit on a large warehouse where no crane could reach the set point. We staged everything on the roof, a helicopter flew the new unit in, and we set it, reconnected it, and started it up. Watch the lift below.

Why a Helicopter

Warehouse roofs are huge. When the rooftop unit sits hundreds of feet from the nearest truck access, even a big crane cannot reach it, and setting up one that can means road closures and a full day of rigging. A helicopter puts the unit exactly where it goes in minutes, and the building keeps running.

How the Day Runs

  • Stage before the flight. Old unit disconnected, curb and connections ready, crew in position on the roof.
  • Clear the ground. Safety zones set with the building team so trucks and staff stay clear of the flight path.
  • Fly and set. The helicopter lowers the unit onto the curb while our crew guides it into place.
  • Reconnect and start up. Power, controls, gas or electric heat, and ductwork reconnected, then the unit is started and checked the same day.

Rooftop Unit Questions

When do you need a helicopter to set a rooftop unit?

When the unit sits deep in the middle of a large roof, too far from the lot for a crane to reach, or when the site has no room to set up a crane. A helicopter can place the unit anywhere on the roof in minutes.

Is a helicopter lift more expensive than a crane?

The flight itself costs more per hour, but it is usually measured in minutes. On big warehouse roofs it can beat the cost of a very large crane, road closures, and a full day of setup.

How do you keep the building running during the swap?

Everything is staged before the flight: the old unit is disconnected, the curb and connections are ready, and the crew is in position on the roof. The new unit goes down, and we reconnect and start it up the same day.

Do you replace rooftop units on occupied buildings?

Yes. Warehouses, retail, offices, and storage facilities, with the lift planned around operations and safety zones on the ground.

More Rooftop Unit Swaps

Not every lift needs a helicopter. Most rooftop replacements are set by crane, with the pick planned ahead, the curb ready, and the old unit out the same day.
